Ajar Studio is a Multidisciplinary design duo working in fields of architectural-interior design, focused on retail and hospitality, event installation, print media, & graphic design. Ajar seeks to expand notions of architectural engagement on the Gold Coast, & to elevate the status of the city as a place that has an undercurrent of cultural identity.
VALUES 1. Address site and context. 2. Engage with traditional and emergent cultures. 3. Have foundation in making – both literal and abstract. 4. Integrate and fabricate place. 5. Be evaluated through merits associated with concept, performance, use and phenomenological experience. 6. Formalise relative to environment, program, and tectonics. 7. Be pursued with utmost ethical regard. 8. Acknowledge and learn from what came before it. 9. Express these values without harm socially or environmentally.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AJAR Studio acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present. AJAR Studio rejects the notion of Terra Nullius and as non-Indigenous Australians, we benefit from the theft of Country and ongoing persecution of First Nations people.
ZINE AJAR Zine is a self published small run print magazine, focusing on Design and Arts in South-East Queensland. The publication features the work of local artists, along with interviews, essays and speculative design ideas. The platform was founded as a means for artists to expand their arts beyond the walls of a gallery space, thinkers to voice thoughts, and generally a medium to provoke discussion . An opportunity for creatives' work to physically exist in tactile form opposed to the ubiquilty of online imagery.
